Minas Competitive Exhibition - Presentation

You tend to believe that regional exhibitions are more homogeneous. But the fact that the films are produced in the same geographic area does not impede a rich variety of proposals and styles to be found, as evidenced by the selection of short films of Minas Gerais presented here. There are multiple issues, approaches and modes of production of the film held today in our state.

A selection says more about its committee than the films themselves. It is natural that this happens, but people who form a committee represent different audiences, as they think, see, realize and reflect on film in very different ways. The plurality of visions of who selects eventually ends up reflected in the diversity of visions of the films themselves.

There are 14 short films in Minas Competitive (three of them also participate in the Brazilian Competition), divided into three programs. There will be 14 own universes presented, who refuse categorization, but give us clues to think about contemporary film production.

The film produced in Minas Gerais is the result of its time, rather than its space. These short films raise issues such as the scenario in a documentary, the subject-camera relation, the work on the genre, spontaneity, dialogue with the arts, all central points of discussion in current cinema, regardless of its territory.
